How to Manage your Company's Social Media

Unless you have been cryogenically frozen or lost in space over the last ten years, you have probably realized that social media is (and will continue to be) a pretty big deal. Utilized by both individuals and large corporations alike, our Twitter feeds and Facebook pages are constantly plastered with all sorts of information. For businesses especially, a solid presence on these various sites can bring in a lot of money. The exact methods used to do this vary widely, and there is no right way to manage your social media. However, listed below are some of the most effective ways to manage your social media accounts to the greatest extent. 

Company Branding

One of the greatest things about social media is that it gets your company name out there in many different ways. Sharing interesting articles that relate to your product is a good way to increase traffic to your page, but keep in mind that social media is also an excellent place to exhibit the culture of your business. Post about your employee of the month, or photos from your recent team-volunteering experience. People looking at your profile should get an idea about the feel for your company, not just what goods or services you offer. Make a decision about how you want to be seen by the public eye, and strive to be consistent with your posts. 

Customer Service

Always be very receptive with anyone who contacts you on social media. People are familiar with social media, so they may be much more willing to contact you with questions and comments on Twitter or Facebook than through your company website. Make sure somebody is constantly managing these pages so you can respond as quickly as possible. Try to cover as many different platforms of social media as possible--you never know what leads you could develop through sites like Pinterest and Instagram that might not initially seem like an obvious choice for your company!

HR Assistance

Growing up in the age of social media instilled a fear in many millennials that potential employers would be stalking their social media. And it turns out that fear wasn’t totally unjust! Using Facebook to learn a little about potential candidates isn’t a bad idea. The goal of this is not to make a decision on whether or not you’re going to hire someone before the interview even takes place, but rather to get a general idea about who they are as a person. The law states that, as long as you only review public posts and information, there are no laws that prohibit you from reviewing their social media and using the information you find to make a decision. However, try to limit your search just enough to see if you think they would be a good cultural fit in your company, and always respect any opinions or beliefs you come across that differ from your own.
